Winston County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Winston County finished sixth in Class 2A region seven with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Winston County has gone a combined 27-57. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Winston County has managed to compile a record of 110-150. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 2A and 266th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets will be under the direction of new head football coach Mark Mitchell as they enter the 2018 season. The Winston County Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Yellow Jackets remain in 2A but move from region seven over to region five. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-43 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 2A and 23rd in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Yellow Jackets if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Winston County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Yellow Jackets open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Hackleburg on Friday, August 24 at Malcolm Blake Stadium. Last year the Hackleburg Panthers finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 1A region eight. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Addison by a score of 41-16. Winston County and Hackleburg have met a total of 13 times on the football field.
